Richard Mafuriranwa – The Professional

As a mental health professional, I completed my master’s in social work at Griffith University in 2018 and am registered and accredited with the Australian Association of Social Workers. My professional experience encompasses a range of fields, including mental health, community work, alcohol and drug rehabilitation, faith-based settings, and aged care services, reflecting my multidisciplinary background.

I have worked with individuals, families, and communities throughout my career to address various mental health concerns and social issues. My approach is rooted in evidence-based practice and emphasises collaboration, empowerment, and advocacy.

I have utilised various therapeutic modalities in my work with mental health clients, including cognitive-behavioural therapy, mindfulness-based interventions, and trauma-focused therapies. I have also facilitated support groups and provided crisis intervention services.

In community and faith-based settings, I have worked to promote mental health awareness and reduce stigma through education and outreach programs. I have also collaborated with other professionals and community organisations to develop and implement strategies for addressing social issues such as homelessness, substance abuse, and domestic violence.

My experience in aged care has included working with older adults and their families to navigate the challenges of aging, including physical and cognitive decline, chronic illness, and end-of-life care. I have provided counselling, education, and support services to help clients and families manage these issues and maintain their independence and quality of life.

Overall, my diverse professional background has equipped me with a broad range of skills and perspectives, enabling me to effectively engage with clients and communities from diverse backgrounds and address various mental health and social issues.
